A new public art work by Knut Åsdam, Mellon Artist in Residence, has been installed at McHarg Plaza on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The project complements the other componets of Åsdam's multi-part project, EDGELANDS. The artist presented a brief statement about the work on Friday October 18 at 4 pm at McHarg Plaza, outside of Meyerson Hall, 210 South 34th Street. This event would not have been possible without the generous support of PennDesign and Slought.
Knut Åsdam utilizes film, video, sound, photography and architecture to investigate the politics of space and the boundaries of subjectivity. He is centrally concerned with place and placelessness in all of its contemporary forms, as well as experimental narrative. This program with Knut Åsdam - Mellon Artist in Residence at the University of Pennsylvania - features recent works, a new film and two new site-specific installations. It explores architecture and cinema at the conjunction of the personal, the paranoiac, and the public. Knut Åsdam’s work has been exhibited at Tate Britain, the Venice Biennale, Künsthalle Bern, the Istanbul Biennale, Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo, Manifesta 7, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, P.S.1 MoMa, and Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, among other international venues. His work has recently been collected by the Tate Modern.
